Marianne's Vacation

As I mentioned in my last post, I have decided to "abandon" a few of my genre stories. As much as I loved writing my two romance novels, I really don't see myself as a romance writer. By the same token, while I enjoy reading fantasy occasionally, writing it was not as much fun as I expected.

Instead of querying stories that, while they could potentially be worthy of publication within their genres, are not the kind of stories I want to devote my life to writing, I'm going to put these stories "aside".

Instead of just abandoning them in my writing folder, I plan to make them available as free E-books on Smashwords. Perhaps someone might enjoy reading them, which will make me feel as though all the work that went into them was not a waste of time.

This past weekend, I started with Marianne's Vacation. I queried it a few times and didn't get any bites. It was a blast to write, but I think it's too old-fashioned and formulaic to be commercial. Frankly, that was by design. I'd never written a Romance, so I stuck to the formula. I think I'm over my "Romantic" period now.

Marianne's Vacation is now available for free on Smashwords, here.

  3. That's a great idea. I've dabbled in a bunch of genres and I know the ones that aren't my strength, but I never thought of making the stories into e-books.

  4. Perhaps that choice is not for everybody, but I've been kind of blown away by the response to my story.
