I've been self-publishing e-books for over a year now, but had continued to read exclusively p-books, mostly from the library. I recently received a royalty payment from Smashwords that was sufficient to pay for an e-reader. I chose to buy a Kindle. As I was reading the owner's manual while the device was charging, I felt very much the same as I did the first time I logged on to the Internet. I knew I was undergoing a life-altering experience even while it was happening. I already love my Kindle, and I'm pretty sure that it will be in my hand at least a few hours every day for the foreseeable future.
I've been publishing my stories according to the New Paradigm, but I continued to do my personal reading under the Old Paradigm. Now that I've moved up to e-book reading as well as e-book writing, I feel as though I'm doing the right and ethical thing by patronizing other authors who are doing the same thing as me. I plan to patronize indie ebook authors -- a lot.
Also, I intend to switch from reviewing p-books to reviewing other indie authors of e-books.
