E-Book Review: "The Sex Club: A Detective Jackson Mystery" by L. J. Sellers

This was a disturbing book.  It was well written and gripping. The "good" characters were sympathetic and engaging. I cared about them. The "bad" characters were despicable. I like that in a thriller.

The disturbing part was the story-line about a teen-aged Bible study group in an ultra-conservative Christian church engaging in exceedingly risky sexual behavior that leads to murder. The tension ratchets way up when the detective/dad investigating the bombing of a birth control clinic realizes that his own daughter could be a target of the bomber.

The novel explores the rigidity of the fundamentalist Christian culture and its disconnectedness from traditional morality and ethics -- and even traditional Christianity. That is disturbing enough. Add clinic bombings and murder, and the tension gets almost unbearable.

Plan on reading this one more or less in one sitting.

  1. Thanks for taking the time to read, understand, and blog about my novel. I appreciate that. It was a disturbing novel to write at times, but a story I had to tell.
